Every audit professional has varying professional development needs, from new hires to partners.  There is a natural progression of necessary skills as increasing responsibilities are assumed on audits, and more complex issues and engagements are faced.

Staff new to audits need to have foundational training (e.g., professional skepticism, audit documentation basics, documenting the design of internal controls, auditing cash, etc.).  As more audit experience is gained, training topics should move to intermediate technical topics (e.g., auditing accounts receivable and revenue recognition, applying audit sampling, testing internal controls for operating effectiveness, etc.) and ultimately include more advanced topics (e.g., auditing estimates, maximizing analytic procedure evidence, auditing impairment of long-lived assets, etc.).  In addition, “soft skills” such as time and project management, reviewing workpapers, client management and leadership take on a more important role as additional audit and engagement experience is gained.

Surgent’s Customized Audit Skills Training Program provides a suggested curriculum of up to seven progressive levels that can be taken in either live or self-study format.  Compared to the competition, our program covers the widest range of developmental areas that are critical to success in any career as an auditor.   Many development areas are offered in a basic, intermediate and advanced level – to reflect the natural build of skills needed as careers progress.

For many CPA firms mixing and matching topics from our menu of over fifty on-demand webcasts is the best way to satisfy specific knowledge voids, time constraints, or budget.  As a bonus, each two-hour topic is supplemented by an additional hour of optional “homework” to reinforce key concepts, resulting in 3 hours of CPE credit per module.

Surgent offers you the most convenient, flexible, practical and engaging training at the best value.  Unlike any other audit skills training product, your firm has complete control over the curriculum, duration, and format of training to best meet your needs.  Click here
