Overview

Building on the skills addressed in earlier modules and reflecting their continued progression in public accounting, Level 3 training introduces the experienced staff accountant to the accounting and auditing guidance related to such complex topics as auditing revenue recognition, leases under ASC 842 and complex investments such as derivatives and cyber-asset. The training also prepares the experienced staff accountant for the increased levels of responsibilities which they will begin to face on their engagement teams, with modules focusing on effective review of workpapers and communication best practices and techniques. This redesigned curriculum is designed to get the critical and professional skills to experienced staff at a time and manner to support their continued career progression.

Major Topics

Each module includes a lecture followed by in-class group case studies and activities. In this two-day course, the following two-hour modules will be presented:

  • Day 1:
    • Auditing contingencies and going concern
    • Internal control testing for operating effectiveness
    • Auditing inventory
    • Reviewing workpapers
  • Day 2: 
    • Auditing revenue recognition 
    • Accounting and auditing ASC 842, Leases
    • Effective communications skills
    • Auditing complex investments
